Police in Masindi, in conjunction with the leadership of Kigulya division have arrested 29 people for failure to dig pit latrines in their homes hence making hygiene in the division questionable.
The area LC III boss, Wilfred Kutegeka told our reporter that, they operation to arrest heads of families whose homes do not have pit latrines in their homes.
He adds that those arrested were from the villages of Kisaboho and Miirya, all in Kigulya division, Masindi municipality.
Kutegeka disclosed that, this operation was made following a resolution passed during one of the council meeting that was held late last year that compels victims to pay a fine of shs50,000 before they are released.
Kutegeka also revealed that the operation was meant to prevent the outbreak of diseases which may occur as a result of defecating in bushes, a practice that has been adopted by many residents in the area.
By press time the latrine defaulters were still detained at Kigulya police post.
