Police in Masindi is holding Julius Kanyesige, the chairperson LCI Byerima cell in Nyangahya division, Masindi municipality for allegedly conspiring with cattle thieves.
Kanyesige who is also a security guard at Nyangahya community Secondary School was arrested from school compound by police detectives on Wednesday as students and teachers looked on.
A police officer at Masindi police station who declined to be named says that, preliminary investigations indicate that, Kanyesige would conspire with cattle thieves, slaughter the stolen cows from the compound of Nyangahya community secondary school and plunge the skins in the school latrine.
Kanyesige’s arrest follows arrest of seven suspected cattle thief by police in Masindi. The operation to arrest the seven suspects were carried out on Monday from Kijunjubwa village in Kimengo Sub County after people had lost over 100 cattle in six months.
Among those who were arrested include Ssekabaka Christopher, Mwesigye Sam, Watumu Isa, Kiyemba David, Martin Rodrick, Ssekayigo Richard and Talemwa Godfrey and they are all detained at Masindi police custody.
On the same day a group of pastoralists from Kijunjumbwa village stormed the office of Godfrey Nyakahuma, the RDC Masindi who doubles as district security committee chairperson and submitted a list of 19 suspected thieves requesting for his quick intervention.
