The state minister for Bunyoro affairs, Ernest Kiiza has dismissed claims that he has withdrawn a case filed in high court of appeal following a high court judgment that was made by Justice Elizabeth Nahamya at Masindi high court throwing him out of parliament and ordered for fresh elections.
The judgment followed a petition that was filed by Kabakumba Labwoni Matsiko, a former independent candidate for Masindi parliamentary seat challenging the election of Ernest Kiiza.
Kiiza, a NRM candidate who was declared by Kizindo Ibrahim Salim, the district returning officer Masindi as the winner for Masindi municipality parliamentary race after 18th February 2016 parliamentary elections was thrown out of parliament on 20th July 2016 when court found out that, he bribed voters by constructing wells, boreholes, giving out sports jerseys, football and cash.
Kiiza however filed an appeal in high court of appeal through his lawyer, Kato Sekabanja seeking high court of appeal to overturn Justice Elizabeth Nahamya’s judgment. After filing an appeal, information has been circulating in Masindi indicating that, Kiiza had withdrawn his case from high court of appeal.
The minister nonetheless believes that, those moving around saying that he withdrew the appeal are making propaganda to mislead people because court will soon fix the hearing date.
“You are aware that I won elections but Kabakumba fabricated falsehood that she presented to court. Justice Nahamya also made erroneous judgment and I am sure that we are going to win this case in high court of appeal”, Kiiza stated.
Kiiza believes that, he is being fought because of what he has done for the people of Masindi, Bunyoro and Uganda at large adding that: “My supporters should stay calm and do not get excited by rumors and propaganda that is being peddled”.
