Residents steal 500Kgs of OWC maize seeds from sub county store|GMEPA

Police in Masindi is hunting for suspected thieves who broke into Miirya sub county stores and stole 500kgs of Longe10 maize seeds that had been distributed under Operation wealth creation program.
The incident happened on Wednesday when one of the sub county staff members who declined to be named went to have lunch at her home after distributing some of the seeds and closed the stores, an action that angered some residents.
Bategeka Julius, a cleaner at Miirya sub county headquarters revealed that the locals being led by crime preventers stormed the sub county headquarters and broke the door and stole all maize seeds that had
been kept in the store.
Haman Bikuru, the sub county chief Miirya reported the matter to Masindi police station and investigations are own going to ascertain the exactly who were involved in the theft of the maize seeds.
Kiiza Richard, the Assistant Chief administrative officer Masindi district local government condemned the act saying that as leaders of Masindi district, they are going to ensure that the culprits are arrested so that they can face the wrath of the law.
Masindi district received 88 tons of maize seeds this week under operation wealth creation program (OWC) and were distributed to four divisions of Masindi municipality and five sub counties of Masindi district.
